Smooth Spring Skin ~ Sisterhood Saturday

Michelle Pino ~ Skana

I don't know about you, but now that the weather is starting to warm up, I have found that my skin is looking a little dull from all the winter cold! At this time of year everyone is trying to get summer ready and beautiful radiant skin is at the top of many women’s to do list. Finding the spare time and money to make a trip out to the spa can often prove difficult but that doesn't mean there are not alternatives. It is possible to make a do it yourself body scrub out of ingredients you can find right in your kitchen. This is a great project to involve the kids in as well. Everyone can help out and afterwards mom gets to reap the benefits.
What you need:
1 Tablespoon of Pure Honey (If you can, please buy local and save our bees!)
1 Tablespoon of Plain Yogurt
1 Teaspoon of Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice (optional)
3/4 Cup of Raw or Granulated Sugar

First, wash your skin and face with your favorite cleanser. Then, combine the honey, plain yogurt, and lemon juice in a bowl. It should be a really smooth consistency. Next, add the sugar and blend thoroughly. I prefer raw sugar because it takes longer to dissolve. Bear in mind, heating the mixture will make the sugar melt into the other liquids. The honey acts as a moisturizer and aids with healing, the lemon juice fades blemishes and has astringent properties, and the yogurt helps dissolve the dead skin and close pores. Yogurt and honey also have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that aid in healing acne and other blemishes.

Apply the mixture on areas where you are having trouble with dullness. I did it in the bathtub, where cleanup would be easy! Scrub your skin gently to exfoliate it, and let the mixture sit on your skin afterwards for about ten minutes. After that, rinse your skin off completely 2 to 3 times, taking care to pay attention to creases like the sides of your nose and under your chin.

Whatever is left of the mixture should keep for 3 or 4 days. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! If you heat it, you can also use it as a glaze on pastries, especially sweet breads, cakes, and muffins! Yummy.

Thanks Michelle for the great post  =)
