DeClutter Confessions Week 8 ~ Office Areas ~ SuperMom Monday

DeClutter Confessions Week 8 ~ Office Areas ~ SuperMom Monday
Last week I told you how much I was looking forward to this week despite all the clutter that I would be clearing.  And that it was all my clutter.  I could not blame any one else.  My Office, my mess, my fault.  But that fact actually made decluttering my Office area all the more rewarding, and strangely enough, more enjoyable.

De-Clutter your home in 91 days with this plan
Mary Organizes Week 8
I have a built in desk in my kitchen that sits in a little nook in between the great room and our mud room.  I've gotten into a bad habit of dropping everything off there that needs to be returned to it's home, or put into a keepsake box, or whatever.  Well no more fellow SuperMom's!  My Office has been reclaimed, check it out!

Decluttering the desk drawers is the first task right out the gate.  BIG task for me.  My drawers used to consist of a typical 'junk drawer', another 'junk drawer' and then a scrap paper drawer aka 'third junk drawer'.  The amount of pencils I got out of the top drawer was UNBELIEVABLE.  I cannot believe I ever heard the words "Mom!  I can't find a pencil!!"  I threw out any pencil that had less then 1/2 an eraser and/or had been chewed on and was still left with 2 huge handfuls.  All the scrap paper was burned but I was kind enough to leave the kiddo's 3 notebooks.  Any crayons, colored pencils or glue sticks were relocated to the Craft Closet (see how I upcycled old formula cans to craft storage here).  I now have an organized school supply drawer, mom & dad junk drawer and a computer paper drawer where I also hide rolls of tape from my 9 year old.  He's creative, but a tape fanatic nontheless.
Tuesday

Tuesday, file day.  Uh oh.  My files had become my piles.  Anyone else familiar with that scenario?  I still knew where everything was but I hate having a pile.  One can quickly become another and then 7 and then you have piles of piles.  I quickly went through it and most was tossed or relocated.  Amongst my pile I found an awesome Storage magazine so obviously I want to be better organized!  Now I have a perfect spot to display my own chore chart, my Weekly Cleaning Schedule.  You can find my schedule and 14+ other free printable cleaning routines here ~ you're bound to find the perfect one for you!

Today we clear off the printer station and organize school supplies.  My poor printer wasn't even safe from clutter!  My school supplies were organized on Monday so all I had to do today was toss some trash that included a bunch of old printer cartridges (why was I saving these again?) and clear a spot for my laptop.  I finally hung up the second Rolling Pin Hook Rack that I made too!
Thursday

Thursday's task is to declutter your shelves, storage areas and any other furniture you may have in your office.  I have two upper cabinets each with one shelf that I worked on.  What was stuff stuffed to the point of me not wanting to even open a cabinet is now organized.  My left cabinet now holds my photo paper, Velcro and thank you notes with some small craft supplies held on the bottom (I need to get a couple small baskets to better contain these).  The right side holds my camera, battery charger and Romba remote at the top with phone books, school handbooks and flashlights on the bottom.  A wooden box that was supposed to help me become organized got emptied and stored away.
Friday

The task of the day is to clear off the top of your desk and all other surfaces that might be collecting clutter.  I didn't have too much more to clear away but I did still manage to fill almost a whole bag worth of shtuff that is now gone!  I took advantage of my slow day to whip up a few fun and quick Trash to Treasure Artwork Displays.  See how easy they are to make yourself with my tutorial this coming Diy Friday!
Saturday

Saturday is the last day, so clean up the floor and wrap it up!  Donate any donations and relocate anything that doesn't belong in your Office space.  I removed the old computer, projector and my purse from the floor and I was DONE.  And it feels awesome!  Instead of all my clutter being noticed some of my fun DIY projects are now center stage!  Check out the tutorials for my Dry Erase Weekly Calendar & Menu Board, Rolling Pin Hook Rack and Artwork Displays.

Now I used to have a dedicated Office, but the surprise of Twins changed all that in a wonderful way!  See how we transformed our Office into a 'Two Peas in a Pod' nursery  =)

Next week I tackle the Linen Closet.  I think I just might have enough blankets to keep 10 families warm this winter.  I better stock up on bags for my donations...

  1. Hi Marcy, You inspired me to get some cleaning / organization done. I worked on my laundry room/storage area over the weekend. Hoping to do a little each weekend when I have longer blocks of free time. Theresa @DearCreatives

  5. This is really awesome! A lot of people tells me to spend a day clearing a room. I have been putting that idea off as I know it can't be done in a day. But a week sounds perfect!! Will start on this de-clutter project. Thanks for sharing!
