Zombie's are all the rage right now. Halloween is right around the corner plus season 4 of The Walking Dead just started and I've been practicing Zombie make-up on my son for his costume so I've been up to my eyeballs in Walker fever as it is. It was no surprise when I signed up at the last minute to bring cupcakes to the cake walk for the Halloween Carnival at my church that my creativity was stuck on scary! Check out how I made these deliciously disgusting Zombie Cupcakes.
Now I'm a cake-from-the-box kinda girl but if you have an amazing homemade recipe feel free to put on your SuperMom cape and have at it. Betty Crocker rocks those Box-Tops so I picked up a box of plain 'ol white cake, a tub of yummy cream cheese frosting and fun monster eyeball cupcake wrappers. Then I popped (get it...eye popped! hehehe) into the Dollar Tree and grabbed a few bags of their zombie severed parts line. Besides the rubber eyeballs they have fingers, ears and bones. 5 in a bag for a buck, not too shabby.
If you whip the frosting in a mixer for just a minute it gets a bit fluffy. Then scoop it into a plastic bag and cut a small piece of the corner for a homemade throw-away pipping bag. A few swirls later and I was done. For the blood splatter I poured red food coloring into a bowl and used a *new* toothbrush to dip into the coloring and splatter the cupcakes with.
If you put your cakes onto the platter first then any stray blood splatter looks all the more festive and frightfully fun!
After the innocent white cupcakes are all splattered up top them off with the eyeball. Zombies love eyeballs. So do little princesses, witches, vampires and Super Mario.
Oh, and twin pumpkins heads do too...but they're too little.
If you are looking to transform one of your little angles into a Zombie for Halloween look no further! These are the best make-up tutorials that I have personally found, and am using for my Zombie! I've put them in order from least scary to not for the faint of heart and even included a warning for the weak-stomached SuperMom's!
