Christmas Tree Tart ~ 12 SuperMom Days of Christmas

Christmas Tree Tart ~ 12 SuperMom Days of Christmas
For me, anything that falls under the 'Christmas Food' category has to meet three very important items of criteria.  Delicious, Festive and Easy.  Not only is this Christmas Tree Tart savory with a focaccia-like crust covered in melted cheese, and the asparagus turned tree scream Christmas but it is S.I.M.P.L.E.  Quick to throw together, quick in the oven and quick off the table so grab a piece before it is gone!

I adapted this recipe from the ever so sweet Parrish from Life With The Crust Cut Off.  I promise it's just as easy as her version but forming the Christmas tree does take a few extra minutes.  Totally worth it.

Let's take a look at the few everyday ingredients you need.

Mozzarella cheese, shredded Parmesan, Italian seasoning, asparagus and refrigerated crescent rolls.  I chose the garlic butter version and I highly HIGHLY recommend them.  In the end the flaky crust on the tart tastes like focaccia bread only softer.  I also used a bit of dried mix of Parmesan, basil and oregano that added a little extra tastiness.

Instead of just trimming the ends off the asparagus try bending a stalk so it snaps on it's own.  You won't end up with any tough asparagus ends.  It's supposed to look like a tree, not taste like one.

A quick blanch in boiling water (like 3-5 minutes) and it's almost tree-building time.  First grease or line a sheet pan with parchment paper and open the crescent rolls.

1.  Unroll the crescents keeping them all in one sheet.
2.  Press all the seems together and roll the ends up.
3.  Add cheese and sprinkle on seasoning.
4.  Begin making your tree, trunk first.
5.  Trim longer asparagus if need be adding as much as you like!

I finished with a little star of asparagus tops.  My girlie's loved this part the most.

15 minutes-ish in the oven and it will be gone before you are doing cutting it into pieces.  Just make sure you grab one for yourself first.

I'm not sure if the cheese bubbles up or the asparagus snuggles down into it but ohmygoodness I was jollier then St. Nick 'cause I had a second roll of crescent rolls in the fridge.  And everyone loved it, even the kiddo's!

Now I know it's not cookies but I'm telling ya, any Santa out there would LOVE to enjoy this while giving gifts.  It would even be good cut into bread sticks and served with warm marinara sauce to dip in.  And bonus!  Once the holidays are over just put those asparagus all in a line and you have a new signature dish everyone will be asking you to make for the next get together!
