Glass Insulator Candle ~ DIY Friday

I just love unique and pretty items that sparkle up my home.  I also love the vintage glass insulators that sit on top of old telephone lines.  When I saw this from
Tracy's Trinket's and Treasure's I immediately Pin'd
it and fell head over heels.

So I made my own.
Lucky for me I have a whole collection of these little insulator guys sitting on a high window sill in my bedroom.  They catch the light just beautifully!  The next time my SuperHubbie and I went yard sale'n & thrift store'n (our dates) I kept my eye out for the metal holder in which this insulator sits.  I've had several of these before where clear glass votive's sit inside.  But then I've broken the glass and didn't know what to do with the metal hoopy thingy so I've just tossed it.  Now I've been on a mission to scoop up any metal hoopy thingy I can find!

Thank goodness for thrift stores I tell ya.  I found several metal hoopy's, even picked up a vintage clip-on earring and scored a couple old broaches.
The hunting and gathering that hubbie and I did was really the most difficult part of this project.  Now gather up your own supplies ladies, let's get a diy'n!
Blue glass insulator, metal hoopy, clip-on earring, jute twine, hot glue gun.  Simple.
The first step is to simply wrap the twine around the insulator.  I placed the insulator into the holder to see where it exactly set at (depending on the size of each, some sit higher up and some sink farther down).  This way I secured my twine in the spot that looked best.  Next I started with just a bit of hot glue just to make sure it stayed nice and tight, but this step really isn't necessary.
Then I secured the earring to the twine by slipping it through a few of the pieces close to the knot.
Like I said.  Simple.  Don't you feel fancy?!!  Look at what you just made!  You could buy one on Etsy for like 30 bucks but why?  You just DIY'd!

I did the same thing only with a clear insulator with a blue crystal broach and another one with a purple, pink and cream pearl pin.  Then I had fun moving them around my home finding the perfect spot.  My perfect spot changes all the time.
Unique, pretty and sparkly.  What's not to love!

I'd love to hear from you too!  DIY Worthy or Leave it at the Thrift Store?
