'Two Peas in a Pod' was just the perfect theme for my little boy/girl Twinkies! Decorating for it on the other hand, was not as easy as I hoped. I couldn't find ANY bedding to match my theme at all. And I could only find a few wall decals for decoration, which I wasn't very happy with. So I decided to paint a mural on the wall and go from there. But by all means I am NOT an artist...all that talent landed solely on my beautiful sister. But I can trace! See my finished project, the meanings behind it and all the little details in Part 3 of my Office to Twin Nursery Reveal!
Like I said I am not an artist in any sense of the word. Drawing Stick-People is about as good as I get. But with the assistance of a projector that I hooked up to my laptop, all I did was simply trace a picture I found on the Internet and wallah! Instant custom mural!
I used a projector similar to this one! |
Here is a full shot of the mural.
While painting it I decided to add a couple more pea-pods and assign a dragonfly or butterfly to each pod. The big dragonfly and butterfly next to the big pod with the baby faces obviously represents the twins. But a hidden meaning to the mural is the other 2 blue dragonflies represent our two oldest sons, Dylan and Mark. The 3 smaller butterflies represent Coral, Bella and Averly.
I kept the bedding a soft yellow, very simple as to not compete with the mural but added some whimsical touches as well. I did my best to cover the built in desk with fabric I picked up at a garage sale and used the same technique to cover the glass doors as seen in Part 1 of the Office to Nursery transformation.
I used the built-in shelving to hold canvas boxes filled with baby stuff and even little shoes!

Over the window I added a bit of green pom-pom trim to carry out the pea-pod theme.
There are still lot's of little details I'd like to fill in. Something cute on the window seat. A fun rug on the floor. The desk would be a great place for a changing station and to display toys. I love hunting around for just the right pieces! Give's me an excuse to go thrifting and DIY'n =)

I loved these little boxes with the green circles peas from the Dollar Tree!
I turned the tall built-in bookcase into a dresser by adding canvas boxes there too. The colored ribbon let's me see with just a quick glance who's drawer it is and the labels let me know what's inside.Learn how to make {almost} FREE Chalk Board Labels from Formica samples in Part 2 of the Nursery transformation here.
